All parks are open from 9am – sunset. The carousel at CFJ Park is open 7 days a week from 4th of July until Labor Day from 12pm – 6pm, weather permitting. The Spray Park at CFJ is open 7 days a week from 4th of July until Labor Day from 12pm – 6pm, weather permitting.

The Village of Johnson City wading pool at Floral Avenue is open 7 days a week from 4th of July until Labor Day from 12pm-6pm, weather permitting.

If you are interested in reserving a pavilion at one of the Village parks, please complete a request form. It is suggested that those looking to reserve a pavilion please call the DPW Office at 797-3031 to make sure your date is available before submitting your form.

Baker Street Park

The Baker Street park is a small neighborhood park located on Baker Street in the Village.

Boland Park

475 Boland Drive, Johnson City, NY

Boland Park is a neighborhood park along the banks of the Susquehanna River. This park contains playground equipment, a basketball court, practice fields for softball and soccer and a picnic pavilion.

CFJ Park

98 CFJ Blvd., Johnson City, NY

HOURS OF OPERATION – The carousel and spray park at CFJ Park are open from 12pm – 6pm (weather permitting) on Monday – Fridays and from 12pm – 6pm on Saturdays & Sundays from 4th of July through Labor Day weekend the hours are 12pm – 6pm everyday.

Located at the corner of CFJ Blvd. and Lester Avenue, CFJ Park, named for Charles F. Johnson, the brother of George F. Johnson, was created in 1923 for the enjoyment of the Endicott-Johnson employees and the Johnson City Community. Our magnificent carousel was a gift to the children of Johnson City from George F. Johnson. In addition to the carousel, this park features a spray park, little league and softball field with lights, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, playground equipment, 3 picnic pavilions and restroom facilities.

Carousel Day – Carousel Day is an annual event sponsored by the Johnson City Partners, a non-profit organization comprised of neighborhood residents, business & property owners, representatives of non-profit and faith-based organizations, all working together for the economic revitalization of the Johnson City Downtown Business District.

CFJ Carousel

CFJ PArkGeorge F. Johnson donated six carousels to the Triple Cities between 1919 and 1934. There are fewer than 170 antique carousels remaining in the United States and Canada. All were built by the well-known carousel maker Allan Herschell and contain wood-carved figures. Each summer they are open to the public to ride for free. The largest and most ornate of these carousels is located in CFJ Park.

The Village is proud to be a custodian of one of the only 19 remaining Allan Herschell Carousels in the world. The largest of the Broome County collection and one of the largest in the country, with 72 horses, our carousel is an example of one of the only three Allan Herschell Company’s four abreast models still operating in the entire country. The beautiful wooden, hand carved horses are called “jumpers” because the figures jump up and down as the carousel spins around on its platform. The carousel is still in its original location in CFJ Park. The Village of Johnson City purchased the park on July 17, 1968.

In 1992 we were honored to have our carousel, along with Broome County’s 5 other carousels, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1993 the horses, scenic panels and rounding boards were restored. In 2010 the building housing the carousel was completely restored. The restoration of the carousel building was partially funded with a grant from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation Environmental Protection Fund and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds from the Town of Union.

Floral Ave (Southside Park)

200 Floral Avenue, Johnson City, NY

Floral Avenue Park, the oldest park owned and operated by the Village of Johnson City is located on the south side of the Village. The land for the park was purchased from the Floral Avenue Cemetery Association in 1934. The cemetery is adjacent to the park on the south and east sides. Unlike CFJ Park, it was originally owned and operated by the Village. The reason given for the development of the park was concern by George F. Johnson for children crossing Main Street to get to CFJ Park. Originally, the park contained a shoe shaped wading pool linking its development to the shoe company.

This park features a wading pool, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, a softball field, playground equipment and restroom facilities.

Northside Park

320 Harry L. Drive, Johnson City, NY

Located at the corner of Harry L. Drive and North Hudson Street, Northside Park is often mistakenly reffered to as Greenfield Park or Greensfield Park. The park area between Harry L. Drive and the service road, which splits the land into 2 parcels, is Northside Park and is owned by the Village. The area between the service road and NYS Route 17 is Green Field Park (correct name) and is owned by the Johnson City Central School District.

Northside Park features a wading pool, playground equipment, a basketball court, picnic pavilions, Little League & Pony League fields and restroom facilities.

Northside Park sustaintained a great deal of damage in the June 2006 flood and again in the September 2011 flood and required extensive repairs and renovations. Thanks to a generous grant of $25,000 from Lowe’s for materials, BOCES students and their instructors rebuilt the concession stands, dugouts and other structures at the park. Lowe’s employees also provided many hours of volunteer labor, working with the students to complete the job in time for the spring sports season. On May 30, 2012, students from Broome-Tioga BOCES career education programs met with representatives from Lowe’s, officials from the Village of Johnson City, and the Johnson City School District to cut the ribbon reopening the park. The Village of Johnson City extends its great appreciation to BOCES and Lowe’s for all of their efforts in rebuilding our park!

The Johnson City Fire Department Headquartes are located within Northside Park on the corner of Harry L. Drive and North Hudson Street.

JC Field Days – Northside Park is also the home of the annual Johnson City Field Days, the area’s largest Labor Day celebration. 2016 marks the 49th year of the event which originally began as part of the Village’s 75th Anniversary Celebration. Since then, the event has expanded to 4 days of food, rides games and fireworks celebrating the end of summer. This event is a long standing tradition in the JC Community that offers an inexpensive and fun way for families to celebrate the end of summer while at the same time supporting local non-profit groups. Proceeds from the event benefit the local non-profit organizations participating in the Field Days. The Field Days are organized by the Johnson City Celebration Committee, a volunteer organization. The Celebration Committee donates excess funds back to the community in various ways which in the past has included donations to the Veterans Park Gazebo Project, sponsorship funds for the annual JCHS Musical, funds to bring the Rachel’s Challenge Presentation to the Johnson City High School, purchasing holiday decorations for Main Street & donating funds for countless upgrades for Village park equipment & supplies.

Virginia Ave Park

Virginia Avenue Park is a neighborhood park that is located behind St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. There is a small playground area, bathroom facilities and 2 softball fields with a concession stand.

Park Rules

The following rules must be followed by all visitors to parks in the Village of Johnson City. Failure to comply may result in the loss of use of the park, fines and possible criminal and legal action.

No person shall:

  1. Injure, deface, destroy, disturb, remove or misuse any part of the park nor any building, sign, equipment, plant, plant material or other property.
  2. Operate chain saws within the park.

Disposal of rubbish, garbage, sewage and noxious materials.

  1. No person shall leave behind or dump any material of any kind in the park except the refuse, ashes, garbage and other material of a permitted activity, and such material shall be deposited in receptacles provided for such purposes.
  2. No person shall, within the park, place or permit to be placed in any river, brook, stream, ditch or drain any liquid or aqueous waste which shall fail to comply with the minimum requirements as set by the New York State Department of Health for quality standards for Class B waters.

Weapons and explosives.

  1. No person shall use, carry or possess any firearms within the park.
  2. No person shall use, carry or possess any fireworks or explosive substances within the park.
  3. No person shall possess any other dangerous weapons or instruments within the park.

Harassment of others.

  1. No person shall: ftrike, shove, kick or otherwise subject another person to physical contact or attempt to do the same with the intent to harass, annoy or alarm such other person.
  2. No person shall follow a person about the park with the intent to harass, annoy or alarm such other person.
  3. No person shall engage in a course of conduct or repeatedly commit acts which alarm or seriously annoy such other person and which serve no legitimate purpose.
  4. No person shall threaten or menace any other person with any instrument or by using any animal to do the same with the intent to harass, annoy or alarm such other person.

Disorderly conduct.

No person shall, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:

  1. Engage in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior.
  2. Make unreasonable noise.
  3. Use abusive or obscene language or make obscene gestures in a public place.

Lewd behavior.

No person shall commit, perform or engage in any lewd, lascivious, obscene or indecent act or behavior.

Advertising, signs and commercial enterprises.

No person shall:

  1. No person shall distribute or place any commercial or political sign, advertisement, circular, notice, statement, banner, emblem or design within the park.
  2. No person shall beg, hawk, peddle or solicit within the park.
  3. No person shall sell or offer for sale any article, thing, privilege or service.

Compliance with orders of Director; setting of regulations.

  1. No person shall fail or refuse to comply with any reasonable order relating to the regulation, direction or control of traffic or with any other order lawfully given by the Director or willfully resist, obstruct or abuse any police officer or other official in the execution of his office.
  2. The Director may set such regulations from time to time that will help in promoting the health, safety and general welfare of persons and the orderly administration of the park pursuant to policies established by the Village Board of the Village of Johnson City.

Camps and camping.

  1. No person shall establish or maintain any camp or other temporary lodging or sleeping place within the park.
  2. Any facility or area rented, leased or otherwise reserved shall be open for inspection by authorized employees of the Department for the purpose of assuring compliance with rules and regulations and proper use of Department property.

Fires.

  1. No person shall start a fire in the park, except small fires for culinary purposes in park grills or privately owned grills or fires in the places or designated areas approved by the Director. The Director may prohibit, at his discretion, fires at any location or for any purpose when necessary for the protection of park property.
  2. No person starting or using fires shall leave the immediate vicinity of the fires before they are extinguished. The dumping of hot ashes or fire from portable picnic grills is permitted only in designated receptacles.

Entry after hours.

No person shall be permitted to enter or remain within the confines of the park or other park facilities after closing hours or before opening hours as set and established from time to time by the Director.

Hunting and fishing.

  1. No person within the confines of the park shall hunt, pursue with dogs, trap or in any way harass or molest any wild bird or animal found within the confines of the park.
  2. No person shall fish in park waters in violation of the rules and regulations of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Animals.

No person shall bring or release any animal into or upon any park or park facility.

Swimming.

  1. Swimming is prohibited except at areas designated for that purpose and only when lifeguards are on duty.
  2. No glass bottles, metal cans or other hazardous objects are permitted in swimming areas.

Certain toys/items of amusement prohibited.

  1. Models, such as miniature planes, cars, rockets or boats, which produce loud noises or are hazardous, are prohibited from all parks and park facilities.
  2. Bounce houses, trampolines, inflatable slides, and other similar equipment are prohibited from all parks and park facilities.

Metal detectors.

No person shall use any metal detector within the confines of the park.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and illegal substances.

  1. No person shall offer for sale or be under the influence of any beer, wine, liquor, tobacco product or other intoxicating beverage or any illegal substance, drug, stimulant, depressant or hallucinating agent within any park or park facility.
  2. No person shall possess, consume or use any beer, wine, liquor, tobacco products or any illegal substance, drug, stimulant, depressant or hallucinating agent within any park or park facility.

Hours of closing.

No person is permitted to remain, stop or park within the confines of any park or park facility between the hours of sunset and sunrise. In case of an emergency or when, in the judgment of the Director, the public interest demands it, a portion of the park may be closed to the public or designated persons until permission is given to reopen.

Traffic regulations.

  1. Purposes of way.
    1. No persons shall use any portion of the park for purposes of way except drives, roadways, paths, walks and trails established for such purposes. Paths established as bridle paths, footpaths, exercise trails, nature trails or bicycle paths shall not be used for vehicular traffic.
    2. Snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV), unlicensed trail bikes and recreation vehicles are prohibited within all parks and park facilities.
  2. Driving on closed roads or drives.
    1. No person shall drive upon or along any park road or drive which has been closed and posted with appropriate signs or barricades. The Director shall have authority to order roads or drives closed.
  3. Speed limit.
    1. No person shall drive at a speed in excess of that posted for the area.
    2. The Village Board shall determine the speed limits in the park.
  4. Reckless driving.
    1. No person shall operate a vehicle along or over any road or drive within the park in a reckless manner or without due regard for the safety and the rights of pedestrians and drivers and occupants of all other vehicles.
  5. Motorcycles.
    1. All motorcycles, licensed trail bikes, minibikes, motor scooters or mopeds operated within the park shall be operated only on those roadways provided for the use of motor vehicles.
    2. All persons operating and passengers riding on motorcycles, licensed trail bikes, minibikes, motor scooters or mopeds within the confines of the park shall wear approved safety helmets, as per the requirements of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, at all times while such vehicle is in motion.
  6. Parking.
    1. No person shall park any motor vehicle upon any roadway in the park or at any location where posted signs or symbols painted on the pavement prohibit parking.
    2. No person shall park any motor vehicle upon any lawn or grassy area unless specifically authorized by the Director on a case-by-case basis.
    3. No person shall park any motor vehicle upon any motor vehicle left unattended in a Village park after closing hours is subject to the vehicle being towed at the owner’s expense.
